The Halo Prime 300 portable pellet grill is the world’s first battery-powered pellet grill. Although there are many other similar-looking portable pellet grills, the Halo Prime 300 is the first of its kind. The Halo does not need a power outlet, generator, or AC adaptor to run. The Prime 300 is powered by a 12-volt rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can run up to 15 hours on a single charge. Featuring a spacious 300 square-inch grilling area, you can take this grilling and smoking powerhouse tailgating or to a remote campsite without worrying about where you will plug it in. Halo is famous for its bulletproof Vera Pizza Oven, so you can be confident that this grill is made to last.

Cooking with the Halo Prime 300
mall Once the grill is on you use the dial to set it to the desired temperature and the cooking timer if you choose. The temperature can be adjusted in increments of 5 degrees. This is a great feature, as some other comparable portable pellet grills do not offer such fine control.
Grilling
The grill offers 300 square inches of cooking space which includes the top warming rack (the main grilling area is 219 square inches, and the warming rack is 81 square inches). Although you cannot grill on the top rack it is great for warming up your buns or keeping cooked dogs and burger warm while you sear another batch on the main grilling grates. The warming rack easily swings away so it is not in your way.
The Prime 300 has a great heat diffuser design optimized to smoke or direct sear. To sear you simply slide the adjustable heat diffuser to open the vent system and provide direct flames. Once open the grill quickly heats to over 500 degrees and you can easily get a nice sear on a steak or burger for that delicious grilling taste.

Smoking
The Prime 300 also does a great job cooking at lower temperature ranges to provide that great pellet smoke flavor when you are on the go. Most portable pellet smokers have a very hard time regulating and maintaining low temperatures due to their compact size. However, this portable grill has no issues holding low temperatures. I have smoked all of my favorite foods on the Prime including pork butt, ribs, and chicken thighs. Overall I am very impressed at the consistency in holding temperatures between 225 degrees and 275 degrees.
This grill offers the largest cooking space of all comparable tabletop pellet grills. The extra space offered with the warming rack is perfect for smoking some chicken legs or other smaller cuts while the main cooking surface is smoking a larger cut.
Weight and Portability
This portable pellet grill measures 29.16″ long by 18.76 ” wide and 17.01″ tall for true portability. The unit weighs in at 48 pounds. This is not the lightest portable pellet grill, but it is far from the heaviest. This is a very solid pellet grill, so you must expect a bit of heft associated with quality equipment. The compact size is ideal if you are using it on the go or live in a small apartment with limited grilling space.

You can run the Halo 300 from an ordinary electrical outlet using the included ac adaptor. However this is the world’s first rechargeable battery-powered pellet grill, so I’m sure you will want to use the battery. The battery is a small 12v 5Ah lithium-ion battery which will provide just about 15 hours of run time at 250 degrees on a single charge.
The battery can be charged by plugging the grill in. Or you can purchase a separate charging dock and extra batteries to have on hand. Since I often spend my weekend camping in remote spots, the charging dock is a no-brainer. I have three batteries charged and ready to go which provides more than enough power for the weekend.
The pellet hopper is internal which is a great space saver and is a real asset when you are packing up for a weekend camping trip…every inch of space in your car counts. Even though the hopper is internal, it still has a massive 10-pound capacity.

Key Features
The Halo Prime 300 comes standard with several features that many other portable pellet grills have, but here are a few key features that set it apart from the competition:
Battery Powered – The world’s first lithium-ion battery-powered pellet grill with 15 hours of use per charge
Large grilling area
Direct sear ability
10 pound hopper capacity
Built-in wired meat probe
Swing away warming rack
What I Like/ What I Don’t
What I Like
Battery Powered – The standout feature of the Prime 300 is the rechargeable battery. Having the ability to grill, roast, or smoke food without being tethered to an electrical outlet or generator is a game-changer. I fully expect to see every pellet grill manufacturer offer a rechargeable battery model in the near future.
Quality Construction – I really like the high quality construction of this grill. From the solid base, thick heavy handle, and quality finish the Prime 300 is built to last. There are no extraneous parts hanging that can be broken off when packing it in and out of the car when you are taking it on the go.
Digital Display and Controls- The digital display is crystal clear and easy to read in all lighting conditions. The large control knob is designed with function in mind. It is easy to set the temperature range from 180- 500 degrees in 5-degree increments with a quick turn of the knob.
What I Don’t Like
Battery sold separately – Unfortunately, Halo decided to sell the battery and docking charger separately from the grill. The grill does come with an included ac adapter so you can use the grill with a plug right out of the box. But if you are considering buying this grill it is more than likely it is for the rechargeable battery capability.
No Wifi Connectivity – This is a minor complaint but I would love to see this grill come with wifi so I can monitor the temperature of my food from my phone. Since this grill is the first of its kind with a rechargeable battery capability, I had hoped it would also have Wifi. But the only other tabletop pellet grill that has this feature is the Green Mountain Grills Trek, so this is not a major drawback.
Access to the fire pot – When you clean the fire pot you need to remove a Phillips’s head screw to remove the heat diffuser/vent control. This is not a huge deal if you are at home near your garage, but if you are out camping in the woods this could be a problem. They should consider changing the design so that you do not need a special tool or risk losing a screw just to clean out the fire pot.
